The Memorial Design

The design evolved from the Community Visioning process in Kalona that completed in the fall. Since then, the Kalona Veteran’s Committee has met several times to tweak the design in a way that best fits Kalona. There are 5 main elements to the memorial:

  1. Granite engraved stones will be engraved with the 5 branches of military and the Prisoners of War seal.
  2. Paver Art seals (State of Iowa, EMS, Fire) will be placed into the concrete walkway.
  3. Metal-cast sculptures of an EMS bag and a Fire Department helmet to honor our community volunteers.
  4. Black granite benches available for sponsorship.
  5. Custom-engraved, commemorative bricks to honor those who have served.
